Tanja Ulrich

As of November 2024, external page Tanja Ulrich joined the Social Brain Science group as a PhD candidate in the EPFL-ETH Zurich Joint Doctoral Program in the Learning Sciences. She holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Biomedicine awarded by the University of Zurich. During her Master's, she focused on neuroscience, investigating the epileptic brain. For her thesis, she developed an algorithm to delineate the epileptic center in the brain using intracranial EEG recordings.
Tanja’s doctoral work combines her curiosity about the functioning of the brain and the nature of social interactions with her passion for dance. She investigates the influence of improvised non-verbal interaction among humans on cognitive flexibility, the feeling of togetherness, and empathy. To do so, she intends to use different methods such as qualitative approaches (interview-based), behavioral measures, motion capture, and neuroimaging techniques. Tanja conducts her doctoral work under the supervision of Professor Simon Henein, EPFLausanne, and Professor Emily Cross, ETH Zürich.
In her free time, Tanja can be found dancing, exploring the mountains on skis or in hiking boots, or enjoying good food.
