Courtney Casale

Courtney Casale is a PhD candidate in the joint ETH-EPFL Doctoral Program in the Learning Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Emily Cross. Courtney holds a BA from Colgate University (USA) and a MRes from Macquarie University (Australia).

Courtney’s research focuses on investigating the influence of expertise and embodied experience on neural and behavioural responses to social body movements, such as dance. Her past experiences as a researcher and as a trained dancer inspire her and help her to think analytically and creatively when formulating research questions and when synthesizing her discoveries in this field.

In her PhD studies and beyond, Courtney strives to continue to explore relationships between neuroscience and the arts to help create a better socially and culturally connected world.

In her spare time, Courtney enjoys taking dance classes, going on walks around the city, and finding new coffee shops to try.
