ETH Zürich Hosts Inaugural Sports Research Forum to Foster Collaboration Across Departments
The first ETH Sports Research Forum recently brought together researchers from across ETH Zürich’s 16 departments to explore synergies and enhance the visibility and impact of sports-related research. The event, initiated by Peter Wolf and Tobias Walser, was hosted by the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST) and opened by ETH Rector Günther Dissertori.
The forum highlighted the impressive breadth of sports research at ETH Zürich, spanning cultural-historical analyses of sports venues, sensor-optimized ski jumping techniques, team sports dynamics prediction, biochemical control of stress reactions, and real-time fluoroscopic analysis of running styles.
This interdisciplinary exchange provided a platform for faculty and researchers to share insights, establish new collaborations, and explore innovative approaches to both elite and recreational sports research. The event fostered a highly constructive atmosphere, emphasizing the potential for further interdisciplinary cooperation within and beyond ETH Zürich.
The success of this inaugural forum underscores the importance of strengthening connections across disciplines to advance sports science and technology. Further initiatives and collaborations are expected to build on this momentum in the future.
